BBCWW unveils MipTV formats slate

Take That’s Gary Barlow

BBC Worldwide (BBCWW) has unveiled its formats slate for MipTV in Cannes next month, led by Gary Barlow-fronted singing competition series Let It Shine.

Barlow will be performing in Cannes at the launch of the BBC1 format, which hunts for five singers to play boyband members in a nationwide musical featuring the music of Take That.

Other new formats on the BBC commercial arm’s slate include Let’s Sing & Dance, in which local celebrities have to don their dancing shoes and grab the mic, and Tribal Bootcamp, which sees comedians plunged into the world’s strongest, fittest and toughest tribes. Daytime quizshow The Boss is also included.

Life-swap series Living as You – My Global Adventure takes people who have reached a crossroads in their lives and drops them into a brand-new life hundreds of miles from home.

Fixed-rig format In Your Ear sees contributors receive help from a diverse group of global advisors via a secret earpiece during an emotional life-changing event. Finally, Trauma Hour follows paramedics as they react to medical emergencies in real time around the country

Scripted formats include Uncle, which follows the comic misadventures of an out-of-work musician as he forges an unlikely alliance with his nephew, and gripping drama Doctor Foster, which returns for a second season in the UK later this year.

Broadcasters in Australasia, Israel and Cyprus have already picked up shows from the BBCWW slate in advance of MipTV.

The History Channel in New Zealand has ordered a second season of its local version of Coast, while Keshet in Israel has commissioned a second run of The Great Bake Off.

Elsewhere, public broadcaster CyBC in Cyprus has ordered a local version of The Weakest Link, while ABC in Australia has licensed Stargazing Live, with Professor Brian Cox due to present the three-part show in a trio of live broadcasts on April 4, 5 and 6.
