BBCWW net moves into Brazil

BBC Worldwide (BBCWW) will launch its first channel in Brazil this month.

From May 28, viewers in Brazil can watch BBC HD via the Top HD package offered by Latin American cable operator Net Serviços.

The launch will come in time for BBC HD’s slate of programming produced to coincide with the London Olympics. London Calling begins in June, aiming to “celebrate the people, music, fashion, art, culture and history of Britain’s capital city in the run-up to the Olympics.”

BBC HD programmes in Brazil will be broadcast in English with Portuguese subtitles, with a few titles dubbed into Portuguese.

The deal also means BBC Entertainment and CBeebies content, such as Top Gear and Waybuloo, will be available in the country via Net Serviços’ VoD service, Now.

Last year BBCWW launched its first BBC HD-branded block of programming in Latin America, on Sky Brazil.

BBCWW currently airs three channels – BBC Entertainment, CBeebies and BBC HD – in more than 17 countries across Latin America, the latter having debuted in the region in August 2011.
