BBCWW grows stake in Clerkenwell

UK-based BBC Worldwide has added to its stake in The End of the F***king World producer Clerkenwell Films.

Clerkenwell’s The End of the F***king World

The commercial arm of the UK pubcaster, which is set to merge with production entity BBC Studios in April, has increased its holding in the production firm from 25% to 48%. Financial details have not been released.

Clerkenwell was behind Misfits on E4 in the UK and Channel 4 drama Lovesick as well as The End of the F***king World, which is available on E4 and Netflix.

Murray Ferguson, the producer’s founder and chief exec, said its increasing “ambitions and output both at home and abroad” meant “it feels like the right time to be strengthening our links with such a highly respected global business.”

Helen Jackson, BBCWW’s outgoing content chief, said the “deeper investment… represents a rare opportunity to take our long-term ambitions for one of the UK’s most respected scripted production companies that little bit further.”

Jackson said BBCWW had enjoyed “a close and commercially successful relationship” with Murray since taking its initial stake in 2008.

The BBCWW exec is set to leave the company after 31 years in 2018, a decision that came after the company revealed late last year that it was planning to merge with BBC Studios.
