BBCWW, Google agree Oz Play

BBC Worldwide (BBCWW) has agreed a partnership with Google Play that will allow customers in Australia and New Zealand to watch shows such as Doctor Who and The Musketeers via the service.

Australian customers can now purchase entire seasons for a range of BBC programmes including Sherlock and Frozen Planet, with prices starting at A$2.99 (US$2.77) for single episodes.

Further titles, including programming from premium drama channel BBC First, will be released to the store on a regular basis.

Rob Leach, director of business development and consumer digital at BBCWW ANZ, said the partnership was part of the firm’s plan to make its content more widely available across digital platforms. BBCWW content is also already available on Google Play in the US, UK and Canada.

The deal was negotiated by Louisa Bayles, head of digital and DVD sales at BBCWW ANZ.
