Oliver Kent becomes head of continuing drama for BBC Studios’ scripted arm and will have responsibility for shows including EastEnders, Holby City, Casualty, Doctors and River City.

He will work with each show’s executive producers to support and develop the editorial ambition, share best practice, nurture on- and off-screen talent and identify further opportunities for continuing drama.

Kent has been executive producer of medical soaps Holby City and Casualty since 2013 and been with the BBC since 1996.

He reports to BBC Studios’ drama chief Nick Betts, who was appointed in May.

BBC Studios has been in turmoil this year with a number of senior staff leaving, including former scripted chief Mark Freeland, entertainment production chief Katie Taylor and factual and daytime chief Natalie Humphreys.

It’s the latest appointment for BBC Studios following a series of departures after the production division was revamped under new boss Mark Linsey.
