BBC3 in the UK has commissioned a six-part satirical parody of true-crime series such as Making a Murderer, The Jinx and Serial.

Sexy Murder is from Roughcut TV and features a “truth crusader” who visits the UK to “speculate to the point of insanity and manage to make a story out of absolutely nothing.”

The series, which debuts on October 31, was created by the team behind BBC3’s Top Coppers, with Roughcut’s Bertie Peek producing and Céin McGillicuddy directing and writing along with Andy Kinnear.

The show stars The Mighty Boosh comedian Rich Fulcher and was commissioned by Damian Kavanagh, controller at BBC3, and Alex Moody of BBC Comedy.

Ash Atalla, executive producer at Roughcut TV, said: “Roughcut, as well as having a growing sitcom business, is embracing fast-turnaround shortform projects like BBC3’s Sexy Murder. It’s brilliant and silly and is a way of comedically reflecting the shows everyone is talking about.”

Netflix’s 10-part true crime series Making a Murderer investigated the wrongful rape conviction of Wisconsin man Steven Avery, who was subsequently tried and found guilty of murder – a crime for which he is still serving time.

HBO’s The Jinx was set around an extended interview with New York billionaire Robert Durst about three deaths linked to him, including that of his wife.

BBC3 ended its linear transmission and went online-only in the UK in February this year.
