BBC3 alum travels to Second Star

The former executive producer of in-house productions at BBC3 in the UK has joined Objective Media Group’s factual entertainment label Second Star.

Joff Powell has moved to the London- and Scotland-based company following the recent commission of forthcoming Channel 4 series Flirty Dancing (working title, 5×60′).

Powell will work with Andrew Burgess, Second Star’s head of development, and chief creative officer Deborah Sargeant as the company ramps up its factual entertainment and formats output.

The Stupid Man, Smart Phone producer has said it is expanding its development hub and is looking for an assistant producer to join its core team.

Prior to BBC3, Powell was commissioning editor, factual entertainment and formats at BBC Worldwide, where he worked on shows including Astronauts: Do You Have What It Takes? (BBC2) and Joel and Nish vs The World (Comedy Central).

He has also previously held roles at Broad Bean Media, Lion Television, Betty and UKTV, where he worked as a commissioning, development and talent executive.

Second Star launched in 2016 and is headed by Sargeant, who joined from Sky where she was commissioning editor for non-scripted. Prior to that Sargeant was executive producer, entertainment for Tiger Aspect.
