BBC2 returns to FX’s Crime Story

The Assassination of Gianni Versace:
American Crime Story

BBC2 in the UK has acquired the second instalment of US anthology drama series American Crime Story.

The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story is the follow-up to The People Vs OJ Simpson: American Crime Story, which was made for FX in the US and also aired on BBC2 last year.

The second season follows the events surrounding the death of the legendary fashion designer in the summer of 1997, with a cast that includes Edgar Ramirez, Penelope Cruz and Darren Criss.

The series was written by Tom Rob Smith (London Spy) and the premiere episode is directed by Ryan Murphy. Executive producers include Ryan Murphy, Nina Jacobson, Brad Simpson, Brad Falchuk and Tom Rob Smith.

Fox 21 Television Studios and FX Productions are behind the show, which is sold by 20th Century Fox Television Distribution.

Patrick Holland, controller of BBC2, said Murphy and his team have “created something truly special,” adding that the series would be “captivating viewing.”

FX and the BBC have become regular partners on dramas including forthcoming anthology series Feud, starring Susan Sarandon and Jessica Lange, and Tom Hardy-starring Taboo.

The BBC has also picked up Katrina: American Crime Story, which will become the next instalment of the FX series after filming was pushed to 2018.
