BBC2 adapts Booker Prize novel

UK pubcaster BBC2 has ordered a six-part drama based on Eleanor Catton’s Man Booker Prize-winning novel The Luminaries.

The series is being produced by Working Title Television and marks Andrew Woodhead’s first project at the company since he became MD of the London Spy producer earlier this year.

Woodhead developed the series independently with Catton prior to his appointment at the NBCUniversal International Studios-owned prodco.

The show is set during the boom years of New Zealand’s gold rush in the 1860s and filming will begin in the country next year.

The series will be executive produced by Catton, Woodhead, Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner for Working Title, and Lucy Richer for the BBC.
