BBC1 raises curtain on comic Carol

BBC1 in the UK is lining up a Christmas comedy special that follows attempts to produce a live TV version of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol.

A Christmas Carol Goes Wrong, produced by BBC Studios, will feature the Mischief Theatre Company, which was behind Peter Pan Goes Wrong for the BBC last year, and a number of guest stars.

The Olivier Award-winning theatre company is known for The Play That Goes Wrong and The Comedy About a Bank Robbery in London’s West End.

The special will follow the Cornley Polytechnic Drama Society as they hijack a production of A Christmas Carol and try to make it work on live TV.

Shane Allen, controller of comedy commissioning at the BBC, said viewers should “expect chaos and a shambles from start to finish, a bit like most people’s experience of Christmas itself.”
