BBC1 prepares to play Hardball

Plimsoll Productions’ Coast & Country Auctions

BBC1 has unveiled a raft of daytime programming including a quizshow from Youngest Media, the prodco launched by ex-Endemol Shine execs Lucas Church and David Flynn.

Hardball (20×45′) sees six contestants answering questions in order to stay in front of a moving ball and win a cash prize. It has been commissioned by Alex McLeod and is being exec produced by Flynn, who set up Youngest in 2016 with Church and Michelle Woods.

Other programmes on the slate include strategy gameshow Chase the Case (20×45′), commissioned by Jo Street and being produced by Argonon-backed UK prodco Bandicoot, which was launched last year by Derek McLean and Daniel Nettleton. The show is Bandicoot’s first for the BBC.

Additionally, property series Coast & Country Auctions (10×45′) is from Plimsoll Productions, while Flipping Profit (20×45′) sees contestants attempting to make money from buying and selling second-hand goods and is produced by Hello Halo.

Dan McGolpin, controller of BBC programming and daytime, said the shows would help BBC1 to “offer the widest range of original content” during daytime, adding that he was “constantly seeking out brand new formats that we think viewers will enjoy and learn from.”

In related news, the UK pubcaster has ordered primetime science shows including Life on the Ward (working title), a two-part immersive series for BBC1 about King’s College Hospital, one of London’s biggest hospitals.

The 2×60′ show is being produced by BBC Studios’ Science Unit, while The Wonderful World of Babies (w/t, 3×60′), from Voltage TV, is being produced for BBC2.
