BBC writes up Chalkboard murder show

My Grandad Was Innocent will air next year

BBC1 has ordered a historical crime show that explores murder cases in which the condemned went to the gallows pleading their innocence.

My Grandad Was Innocent (10×60′) is being produced by London-based Chalkboard TV and will broadcast in early 2018.

The format sees two top criminal barristers investigate historical murders, joining forces with a living member of the convicted criminal’s family to re-examine the crime and evidence.

It was commissioned by Dan McGolpin, controller of BBC programming and daytime, and Lindsay Bradbury, BBC daytime and early peak commissioning editor. It will be executive produced by Mike Benson and Warwick Banks for Chalkboard.

Chalkboard is part of production group IZEN, which consists of Elephant from France, Zebra from Spain and iMagic from the Middle East.
