Liz Kilgarriff becomes commissioning editor for BBC independent drama and will take over Hill’s shows, following the latter’s move to replace Ben Stephenson earlier in the year.

She will work with fellow commissioners Matthew Read and Lucy Richer, with the trio responsible for developing drama from indies and expanding relationships across the sector.

Kilgarriff, previously creative director for in-house drama before becoming an exec producer, has worked for BBC drama for 14 years on shows including Casualty, Judge John Deed, Cranford, Tess of the D’Urbervilles and Upstairs Downstairs. She is currently overseeing BBC3 drama Thirteen, and will assume her new role from August 24.

Hill took over from Stephenson, who is moving to JJ Abrams’ prodco Bad Robot, earlier this year after emerging as a frontrunner for the role in May, as first reported by C21.
