BBC moves Bridge for final season

UK pubcaster the BBC is moving the concluding season of hit Scandinavian series The Bridge to BBC2 after acquiring the show from Germany’s ZDF Enterprises.

The Bridge has been adapted in six territories including the US and UK

The crime drama,  previously aired on BBC4, is a Scandinavian coproduction produced in Sweden by Endemol Shine Group’s Filmlance International and in Denmark by Nimbus Film. The final season will debut next year.

The Swedish- and Danish-language drama has been adapted in six territories, including in the US by FX. The Anglo-French version, The Tunnel, was ordered by Sky in the UK and Canal+ in France.

Writers Hans Rosenfeldt and Camilla Ahlgren said the show is “set two years on from the last series” and follows the same two detectives as they examine a “macabre crime.”

Patrick Holland, channel controller at BBC2, said the show had “helped redefine television drama in recent years and it is fitting that its final series will be showcased on BBC2.”
