BBC factual veteran departs

The BBC’s head of TV current affairs commissioning is leaving the UK pubcaster after 22 years to join its BBC Academy training programme.

Clive Edwards, previously a defence correspondent for the Daily Mail, worked on shows including Panorama and the Money Programme and commissioned the recent Inside the Commons obs doc.

Fiona Campbell, head of current affairs, will absorb his commissioning duties. The move is part of a widespread restructure of the factual commissioning team at the BBC that has included Alison Kirkham coming in to head the department in place of Emma Swain, as well as Patrick Holland being hired as head of documentaries to replace Emma Willis.

Edwards will spend the next 12 months leading a factual storytelling initiative at BBC Academy.

BBC director of TV Danny Cohen said: “Clive’s departure from BBC Television is a great loss. He has championed investigative journalism and innovative programme-making and brought current affairs to a much wider audience.”
