BBC Earth reels in fishing with ITV

BBC Worldwide (BBCWW) has linked up with UK broadcaster ITV on a 10-part series about fishing for its fledgling BBC Earth brand.

Fishing Impossible is being produced by UK prodco Alaska and follows a group of maverick fishing specialists who travel the globe trying to reel in hard-to-catch species.

BBCWW has also ordered What Planet Are You On? (working title) for BBC Earth, described as a “witty” blue-chip natural history show “rebooted for a digital age.”

The 10×25′ programme is being produced by BBC Earth Productions and will include footage from the BBC’s natural history archive. BBCWW holds international distribution rights for Fishing Impossible except in the UK and Ireland, and global rights for What Planet Are You On?.

The duo joins Extreme Weather: the Survivors, from Darlow Smithson, on BBC Earth, which will launch in Latin America, Asia and South Africa later this year. It’s already available across the Nordics as well as in Poland, Turkey, Romania, Hungary and Slovenia.

The shows are part of the Earth Unplugged strand, which Julie Swanston, BBCWW’s VP of commissioning, described as “natural history with its hair down.”
