BBC1 has recommissioned Hat Trick-produced comedy series Outnumbered for a fifth season and a new Christmas special.
The 40-minute special will air later this year while the new six-episode series will follow late next year with production carrying on into 2013, the BBC confirmed.
The news comes despite speculation at the end of last year that the popular series would be axed.
A festive special aired on Christmas Eve last year, following the fourth season in September and October. Outnumbered was the 16th highest-rating show on BBC1 last year.
The comedy, which debuted in 2007, focuses on the home life of a family with three children and is written by the creators of Drop The Dead Donkey, Andy Hamilton and Guy Jenkin.
The executive producers for the new series are Jimmy Mulville for Hat Trick and Gregor Sharp for the BBC.
