BBC brings in comedy commissioner

Alex Moody

The BBC has appointed a former Pett Productions executive as a comedy commissioning editor to replace Chris Sussman, who has taken charge of the genre at BBC Studios.

Alex Moody joins Kristian Smith and Kate Daughton as part of the team under Shane Allen, controller of comedy commissioning at the UK pubcaster, and will work on shows such as Cuckoo, People Just Do Nothing and Charlie Brooker’s Weekly Wipe.

Moody most recently worked at UK prodco duo CPL Productions and Happy Tramp developing scripted comedy and comedy-entertainment projects, and also had spells at UK indie Pett Productions.

Allen said Moody’s “boundless energy, enthusiasm and finely tuned comic sensibilities” would play “a key part in delivering over 100 hours of originated comedy on BBC television.”

Moody takes up the role on May 3 to replaces Sussman, who moved to BBC Studios earlier this month.
