BBC Worldwide and AMC Networks’ US channel BBC America has greenlit a 10-part second season of Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency.

The show is based on Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy author Douglas Adams’ comic novels and is set in the unusual world of the hyper detective Dirk Gently.

The eight-part first season, ordered straight to series in January, was penned by Max Landis (Chronicle) and coproduced by AMC Studios, Ideate Media and IDW Entertainment, along with Circle of Confusion.

It is sold globally by IMG, which picked up distribution rights in May.

Landis exec produces alongside Ted Adams and David Ozer for IDW, David Alpert and Rick Jacobs for Circle of Confusion and Zainir Aminullah and Arvind Ethan David for Ideate.

AMC Networks paid US$200m for a 49.9% stake in BBC America, which also airs Doctor Who and Orphan Black, in October 2014. Former SundanceTV president and general manager Barnett arrived as president and general manager a month later.
