The BBC has commissioned a second season of comedy Peter Kay’s Car Share, which will again debut on iPlayer.

The 4×30′ show, which won Best Scripted Comedy at the Bafta Television Awards, follows comedian Kay as he drives a colleague (Sian Gibson) to work as part of a carpool scheme.

It is written by Paul Coleman, Gibson and Kay, who also directs, with Gill Isles producing for UK prodco Goodnight Vienna.

The series premiered exclusively on the BBC’s on-demand service iPlayer in 2015, with the second run set to become available on the service in 2017 before airing on BBC1.

The UK pubcaster said the show’s first season had received three million iPlayer requests in its first four days on the service, before attracting more than six million viewers when it aired later on BBC1.

Charlotte Moore, controller of TV channels and iPlayer, said the show “broke the mould, innovated and took risks in comedy on primetime BBC1 – a show that epitomises what the channel is all about.”
