Former Endemol UK creative chief Sir Peter Bazalgette will join the board of UK broadcaster ITV as a non-executive director next month.

Sir Peter Bazalgette

Bazalgette, currently chair of the Arts Council and president of the Royal Television Society, will take up his latest post from June 1.

“Peter has a fantastic track record of management of creativity in television and tremendous knowledge and experience of the global content business,” said ITV chairman Archie Norman.

“His appointment is an important further step in building an ITV board capable of combining deep commercial skills with knowledge and understanding of the creative industries.”

Best known for bringing Big Brother to the UK, Bazalgette’s heritage in international formats will be particularly prized by ITV as it continues to try and bolster its overseas business.

“I am delighted to be joining the board of Britain’s major commercial broadcaster. It’s a particularly exciting time to get involved as they grow their content business, ITV Studios, both at home and internationally,” said Bazalgette.

He is also a non-executive director of Nutopia, Sony Pictures Television, and YouTube channel management firm Base79, as well as a former board member of Channel 4.
