Treasured Tunes sees viewers vote to decide their country’s best loved song, with contemporary recording artists performing reinterpreted and rearranged versions in the studio.

The show received an 85% market share when it aired on Icelandic pubcaster RUV, according to Banijay, who will launch the format on the international market at MipTV next month.

“Music shows tend to do well in today’s market and our unique take on creating new songs out of old classics really hit a nerve with the nation,” said Kjartan Thor Thordarsson, CEO at Sagafilm Nordic, which created the format.

The company also produces local versions of MasterChef, Idol, and Minute To Win It in Iceland and recently set up a Swedish arm to develop projects with international partners.
