Banff honours Murderer

Netflix’s breakthrough true-crime documentary series Making a Murderer will be honoured as the 2016 programme of the year at the forthcoming Banff World Media Festival.

The 10-part show focuses on the false rape conviction and subsequent murder trial of Wisconsin man Steven Avery and has sparked outrage in the US, where petitions demanding Avery’s release from prison have garnered thousands of signatures.

Series creators Laura Ricciardi and Moira Demos, who spent 10 years filming the project, will attend the 37th edition of the Banff festival to hold masterclasses and collect the prize at the annual Rockie Awards night.

The full list of nominees in the other Rockie categories was announced yesterday.
