Viacom International Media Networks (VIMN) will launch Comedy Central Extra in six territories across Central Europe tomorrow.

The channel, a sister service to the flagship Comedy Central network, will go live in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia and Slovenia via cable and DTH operator SBB-Telemach Group.

This is 10 months after the net launched in the Netherlands and nine years after it debuted in the UK. The new feed will begin with programmes such as South Park, The Daily Show with Jon Stewart and office slacker sitcom Workaholics.

The launch is part of a major push ^[1] to extend the Comedy Central brand and establish it as a leading global comedy channel for young adults, as VIMN has done with children’s channel Nickelodeon and youth net MTV.

“In-depth research into the market, combined with the huge success of South Park on [localised channel] MTV Adria, indicates that a new specialised comedy destination will be very well-received across the region,” said David Lynn, VIMN’s executive VP and MD for the UK, Australia and CEE.

In related news, VIMN has sold Workaholics to Foxtel in Australia, TNT in Spain (season two) and Lagardere in France (S1-3). Foxtel has also signed up for comedy video clips series Tosh.0.

The Philippines’ CPI has also acquired a clutch of Comedy Roast specials, while Denmark’s TV2 has taken the Charlie Sheen special.

Elsewhere, TV2 in Norway has re-licensed 15 seasons of South Park and acquired the 16th, while Finland’s Jim TV has bought seasons 14 and 15.

New Czech channel Fanda, operated by Central and Eastern European Media Enterprises’ Nova TV, has acquired all 16 seasons of South Park, while New Zealand’s Four has bought seasons 11 and 12.
