AXN greenlights first Polish original

AXN Central Europe, part of Sony Pictures Television (SPT), has commissioned its first original series in Poland.

The as-yet-unnamed three-part series will be a local Polish version of Swedish crime series Morden I Sandhamn (The Sandhamn Murders).

Filming will begin in June by the Baltic Sea and be directed by Greg Zgliński who is known for his work on Polish television and movie hits such as One Long Winter Without Fire, Pitbull and Paradoks.

The 3×60’ series will be written by Igor Brejdygant (Paradoks, Palimpsest), and be produced by Opus Film, the company behind such big-budget, high-quality Polish productions as The Master, Your Name Is Justine, and Retrieval.

The programme is adapted from the Swedish Mordem I Sandhamn production that was based on the hugely popular, best-selling Swedish novel Still Waters by Viveca Sten.

The series sets a puzzling murder mystery against beautiful surroundings and an idyllic beach scenario.

John Rossiter, SPT CE general manager, said: “Our goal is to produce something different, telling an international crime story through a unique Polish lens. The crime genre is extremely popular in Poland and we think the time is right for AXN to start producing high-quality, original local content.”

The series will premiere on AXN Poland in Fall 2014.
