MIPCOM: UK independent production company Avanti Media has joined forces with Pinewood Pictures to develop a slate of returnable entertainment formats for the global market.

Avanti will develop the new formats with development funding and investment from Pinewood, with Sky Vision also onboard as the international distributor.

The prodco is responsible for a range of factual and factual entertainment shows, among them Britain’s Billionaire Immigrants for Channel 4 and Jamie Baulch: Looking For My Birth Mum on BBC1. It is now in production on Model Mechanic, a search for the ‘next face of the motoring industry,’ for Sony Pictures/S4C.

A new baking format is also in the works for Sony Pictures/S4C, plus a 20.00 pilot for ITV fronted by Alesha Dixon.

Earlier this year Pinewood Group made a big move into content creation with the launch of a TV production division, partnering with producers and providing development and deficit financing for projects.

Avanti, which turns 20 next year, has just recruited producer Neil Grant from Films of Record, who will join as creative director in January 2017. Alongside Avanti co-founders Emyr Afan, chief creative officer, and Mair Afan, Grant will be responsible for developing factual, features and current affairs content.

This follows the arrival of Christian Wikander, SVT’s drama commissioner who was behind The Bridge, as coproduction director at Pinewood in August.
