Australia to view Olympics in 3D

Network Nine in Australia will air 3D coverage of this year’s London Olympics.

The channel’s trial 3D licence, granted by the Australian Communications and Media Authority, will allow viewers with 3D-enabled TV sets in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, Perth and the Gold Coast to watch up to five hours of 3D Olympic action each day during the games.

The 3D package, to be available on Nine’s 3D channel, includes the opening ceremony as well as events such as the swimming finals, gymnastics and athletics, and will conclude each day with a one-hour highlights programme.

Jeffrey Browne, Nine’s MD, said: “The addition of a 3D package to the ntwork’s coverage of the London 2012 Olympic Games ensures Australians will get the very best television coverage at no charge to our viewers.”

In February, UK pubcaster the BBC confirmed that the opening and closing ceremonies, men’s 100m final and a highlights package from each day would be broadcast in 3D on the BBC HD channel during this summer’s event.
