Atresmedia sails into Panama

Spanish media giant Atresmedia is expanding its international presence by rolling out one of its drama-focused channels in Panama.

The deal with telco Cable Onda will allow viewers to watch Atres Series, which offers scripted shows including Algo que Celebrar (Something to Celebrate), political series Bajo Sospecha (The Police Suspect) and prison thriller Vis a Vis.

Atresmedia’s Antena 3 is already available in the Latin American country and the firm’s international director Mar Martinez Raposo said its popularity would help Series’ entry.

Atresmedia is behind Spanish networks including La Sexta, Neox, Nova and Mega, while its international division operates channels include Atres HELLO! TV.

BBC Worldwide inked its first original coproduction deal with the Spanish firm last year for a sci-fi show called The Refugees, which aired on La Sexta.
