Arnie tackles climate for Showtime

US premium cablenet Showtime is prepping a documentary series on climate change with Avatar director James Cameron and Arnold Schwarzenegger among the executive producers.

Years of Living Dangerously will air in 2013, bringing together some of Hollywood’s biggest actors and producers along with some of the US’ leading news journalists to speak to people affected by and seeking solutions to global warming.

Showtime will air six to eight one-hour episodes of the series combining the styles of filmmakers with the reporting expertise of the journalists.

David Nevins, president of entertainment for Showtime, said: “The recent devastation on the East Coast is a tragic reminder of the direct link between our daily lives and climate change. This series presents a unique opportunity to combine the large-scale filmmaking styles of James Cameron, Jerry Weintraub and Arnold Schwarzenegger with the hard-hitting, intimate journalism of 60 Minutes veterans Joel Bach and David Gelber.”

Oceans 11 producer and former United Arts CEO Jerry Weintraub, 60 Minutes producers Joel Back and David Gelber and climate expert Daniel Abbasi are also executive producing. Actors Matt Damon and Alec Baldwin are already on board with more names to be announced soon.
