The US$230m acquisition of Alliance Films by rival Canadian distributor Entertainment One (eOne) has been approved by the country’s competition authorities.
eOne announced in September that it had agreed a deal to buy Alliance and the waiting period under the Canadian Competition Act has now expired.
The companies are now free to complete the deal, which eOne today said it intends to do “as soon as possible.”
eOne, which owns the Peppa Pig kids brand and sells TV series The Walking Dead and Rookie Blue as well as the Twilight film saga, funded the move with a £110m (US$175.6m) share issue last year.
Alliance’s film library includes titles such as Pulp Fiction, Good Will Hunting, Lord of the Rings, The King’s Speech and The Hunger Games. Together, the firms will have a combined library of more than 35,000 film and television titles.
