Fox splashes out on diving format

Fox has become the second US broadcaster to pick up a celebrity high-diving format for primetime.

Banijay International’s Stars In Danger: High Diving shows celebs diving into swimming pools after receiving training from a professional instructor.

This makes the US the second country after Norway to enter into a celeb diving formats face-off, after ABC picked up rights to Dutch prodco Eyeworks’ format Celebrity Splash this month.

The two production companies are currently involved in a legal row, with Banijay requesting an injunction against Eyeworks to prevent it producing and distributing Celebrity Splash.

Fox has commissioned Banijay Group-owned US prodco Bunim/Murray Productions to adapt the format, which is based on the German show TV Total Turmspringen.

TV Total has aired on German broadcaster ProSieben since 2004 as an annual event for its Stars in Danger season, produced by Banijay-owned prodco Brainpool. Banijay has previously sold the format to TV3 in Sweden and TV2 in Norway.

Jonathan Murray, chairman of Bunim/Murray, said: “Americans love competitive reality shows, especially when celebrities are involved, and Stars In Danger: High Diving takes things to an entirely new level, literally raising the stakes higher than ever.”
