Sky lines up Attenborough 3D project

UK satcaster BSkyB is working on a new natural history series featuring Sir David Attenborough for its 3D channel.

Micro Monsters 3D with David Attenborough (working title) is the latest project from Colossus Productions, the 3D production joint venture between Sky and Atlantic Productions.

The 3x60′ series is slated to premiere in spring next year and will use pioneering filming techniques to show extreme and deadly insects and bugs, including killer ants, scorpions and poisonous beetles.

Sky and Atlantic have previously teamed up with Attenborough on four other 3D projects, including Flying Monsters, The Bachelor King and Kingdom of Plants. The most recent project, Galapagos 3D, is set to air on Sky 3D later this year.

Anthony Geffen, executive producer and CEO of Atlantic, said: “All our previous 3D projects with David Attenborough for Sky have been ground-breaking, but Micro Monsters goes several steps further using everything we’ve learnt previously about cutting-edge storytelling in 3D, but adding the chance to dive into a completely alien world.”

The series was commissioned by Sky’s head of factual and features Celia Taylor.
