Banijay format dives into Sweden

MIPCOM: A second Nordic channel has picked up local format rights to Banijay International’s celebrity diving show.

Norwegian network TV2 licensed Stars in Danger yesterday and has now been followed by TV3 in Sweden.

The show, to be made locally by Nordisk Film TV Sweden, will launch in a primetime slot in 2013.

Karin Stjärne, MD of Nordisk Film TV Sweden, said: “Our German colleagues have so much valuable production know-how, having produced the diving show every year since 2004 with great ratings. With those skills in place and their involvement it will be so much fun to see Swedish celebrities dress up in their speedos and take the plunge!”

The German version airs on ProSieben annually as TV Total Turmspringen, where celebrity contestants compete in a variety of competitions, from high-diving and springboard to synchronised diving.

Celebrity diving formats are currently at the centre of a row, with Banijay accusing rival Dutch production and distribution company Eyeworks over its format Celebrity Splash.

However, Eyeworks has rejected the claims and has sold the format to ABC in the US, ITV in the UK, TF1 in France, Finland’s Nelonen and Ukraine’s 1+1 in the past few days.
