BBC, Masterpiece in double copro deal

MIPCOM: BBC Worldwide (BBCWW) has notched up a fresh two-title drama coproduction deal with the Masterpiece strand on PBS in the US.

The deal includes Victorian period department store drama The Paradise. It’s the PBS strand’s second bite at UK department store dramas, following its recent pre-buy of Mr Selfridge from ITV Studios. The second BBC copro, The Lady Vanishes, is a 90-minute adaptation of the classic Hitchcock thriller.

Masterpiece exec producer Rebecca Eaton said the shows were “the latest in a long line of beautifully made, award-winning coproductions. The BBC has been our trusted partner and fellow public broadcaster for over 40 years.”

The Paradise, currently airing on BBC1 in the UK, is written and created by Bill Gallagher (Lark Rise to Candleford), produced by Simon Lewis (Five Daughters, My Family & Other Animals) and exec produced by Susan Hogg (The Fades, Lark Rise to Candleford, Five Daughters).

The Lady Vanishes is scripted by Fiona Seres (Tangle, The Silence), produced by Annie Tricklebank (Upstairs Downstairs, Lark Rise to Candleford), directed by Diarmuid Lawrence (The Mystery of Edwin Drood, The Body Farm) and executive produced by Anne Pivcevic (The Mystery of Edwin Drood, Great Expectations).
