ABC taps Nutopia for factual chief

ABC in Australia has appointed a veteran documentary producer as its new head of factual.

Phil Craig

Phil Craig will join the Aussie pubcaster on October 29, once he concludes his work with Jane Root’s British indie prodco Nutopia.

The head of factual and head of documentaries positions at ABC are being merged into one as part of a restructure. Craig will take the new Sydney-based position replacing Jennifer Collins, who moved from head of factual to head of entertainment in April, and head of documentaries Alan Erson who left earlier this year to join Essential Media and Entertainment.

Craig has previously worked with ABC in coproducing documentaries including Surviving Mumbai and Churchill’s Darkest Decision. The pair recently concluded Chateau Chunder: The Australian Wine Revolution and Desert War.

While at Nutopia, Craig executive produced Targeting Bin Laden, a 90′ doc about the killing of Osama Bin Laden, which featured President Obama’s only documentary interview on the raid.

Prior to Nutopia, he worked with the BBC, Granada Television and Brook Lapping among others.
