MTG bolsters Nordic HD bouquet

Scandinavia’s Modern Times Group (MTG) is adding 11 new HD channel feeds and four catch-up networks to its Viasat satellite offering.

The launches, due in the fourth quarter of this year, will include HD feeds of MTG’s pay-TV factual channels Viasat History, Viasat Explorer, Viasat Nature and Viasat Crime, as well as an HD version of its pay sports channel Viasat Golf.

The networks will roll out in Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Finland on November 1.

MTG will also debut HD versions of free-to-air channels TV6 and Viasat4 in Sweden and Norway respectively. It has more HD sports feeds planned, which will debut in early November.

The Swedish version of premium channel Viasat Sport will launch in HD in Sweden and Finland, while the Norwegian version of the network and Viasat Fotball will also launch in HD in Norway. Viasat Hockey HD is set to go live in Sweden, Norway and Finland.

As for catch-up channels, MTG is adding The National Geographic HD, National Geographic Wild HD, E! and Disney to its Viasat Play offering in Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Finland. The on-demand channels, available through Viasat DVR set-top boxes, will be available from October 1.

“High definition content is a key ingredient of our premium pay-TV offering, and the expansion of our HD portfolio adds further value to our leading Viasat offering,” said MTG CEO and president Hans-Holger Albrecht.

The channel launches follow MTG’s roll-out of four premium HD film channel feeds and five on-demand movie networks across all four countries on March 1.
