Somethin’ Else games chief quits

Mark Sorrell, the games director at UK digital agency and prodco Somethin’ Else, has stepped down after less than a year at the firm.

The former FremantleMedia executive joined the East London-based firm in January after a shake-up at Fremantle UK’s digital arm.

Sorrell previously worked as head of games at Screenpop, Fremantle’s unit responsible for dual-screen interactive projects such as football-based Facebook game Scoreboard.

Earlier this year, FremantleMedia UK Interactive subsumed the unit, which lives on as a sub-brand in the organisation. FremantleMedia UK is a new division that also encompasses the former TalkbackThames Digital business, and is led by former Screenpop MD Peter Cassidy.

A replacement for Sorrell is yet to be announced, as are details of where he is headed next. However, the executive, who worked his last day at Somethin’ Else on Friday August 3, is currently consulting.

A spokesman for Somethin’ Else said the departure was entirely amicable, adding: “I imagine we’ll probably even be working together again in the near future.” Earlier this month Sorrell tweeted that he would give more news about his future plans “soon…ish.”
