Period espionage drama The Americans has been greenlit for 13 episodes by US cable network FX.
The series begins production in October and is scheduled to premiere in early 2013. It is coproduced by Fox Television Studios and FX Productions.
Created by former CIA agent Joe Weisberg (Falling Skies) and starring Keri Russell, Matthew Rhys and Noah Emmerich, the show is about the marriage of two KGB spies posing as Americans in suburban Washington DC shortly after Ronald Reagan is elected president.
John Landgraf, president and general manager at FX Networks, described the show as “a taught series that crackles with incredible performances rooted in character perspectives never explored on a US television series.”
Weisberg is showrunner, alongside executive producer Graham Yost and Darryl Frank and Justin Falvey of DreamWorks Television. Gavin O’Connor directed the pilot.
