Animal Planet has commissioned a fishing series focusing on New England fishermen who search for elusive eels.
Eel of Fortune (working title), from Left/Right Productions, will air next year and looks at the catching of young eels, or elvers, which fetch US$2,400 a pound and are a delicacy in Asia. Ken Druckerman and Banks Tarver will executive produce for Left/Right.
It is the latest high-stakes fishing show commissioned by a US network, following Nat Geo’s Wicked Tuna, Discovery’s Deadliest Catch and Animal Planet’s own Hillbilly Handfishin’, among others.
In related news, Animal Planet is returning Finding Bigfoot to its schedules this November with 11 new episodes and two specials from Ping Pong Productions.
