Former BBC1 controller and TalkbackThames chief Lorraine Heggessey has officially launched her prodco Boom Pictures, after a £7.1m (US$11.1m) deal to acquire Boomerang Plus was approved.
Ninety-seven percent of shareholders in Welsh indie Boomerang voted in favour of the buy-out by Heggessey and Boomerang management, which will also see the company withdrawn from the London stock exchange.
Heggessey will be installed as executive chairwoman of Boom Pictures, which is backed by Lloyds investment division LDC. Boomerang chief executive Huw Eurig Davies will become CEO.
The newly formed indie will be based in Cardiff and has ambitions to produce for TV and digital platforms. The launch of Boom Pictures and its proposed takeover of Boomerang were announced this month. http://www.c21media.net/archives/84293
