Shaw Media appears to have settled the question of who owns US drama The Client List in Canada.
It does, not rival broadcaster Bell Media.
Toronto-based broadcaster Shaw said again this week that the US-made prostitution drama will air on Lifetime TV when the US specialty channel makes its debut in Canada.
Bell had hoped to scoop the series away from Shaw and, during its upfront presentations in the spring, let it slip that a deal for The Client List was all but signed.
It remained unclear for sometime, however, which of the companies actually had dibs on the series, which is distributed by Sony Pictures Television and was recently renewed for a second season.
Shaw did not return calls for comment, but Bell this week admitted defeat. A representative told C21 the network has “come to an agreement with the distributor,” but withheld any further comment.
The Client List, which stars Jennifer Love Hewitt, will make its Canadian debut on September 2, six days after the Canuck debut of Lifetime.
The channel is also heading north with programmes including Dance Moms, Drop Dead Diva and the telemovie Liz & Dick, with Lindsay Lohan playing Elizabeth Taylor.
