Culpepper to leave Nat Geo

Maryanne Culpepper is stepping down as president of National Geographic Television (NGT) after little more than year.

The US cablecaster said Culpepper will exit at the end of the year to go back to her “first love” – independent production.

Culpepper took over as president of NGT in April 2011, stepping in after the departure of Michael Rosenfeld. Before that, she was its executive VP of editorial and new business development.

Before joining National Geographic in 1996 she ran her own production company, Graffiti Works, out of Orlando, Florida. NGT said the search is underway for her successor.
