News Corp in the US has promoted Peter Rice to chairman and CEO of its Fox Networks Group (FNG).
Rice has been president of entertainment at FNG for two years. In his new position, he will oversee all programming for outlets including its flagship network, FX, Fox International Channels and the National Geographic channels.
“Peter has proven himself to be one of the most innovative and strategic leaders in the entertainment industry,” said News Corp president and chief operating officer Chase Carey.
David Haslingden, president and COO of FNG, and Mike Hopkins, president of distribution, both of whom previously reported to Carey, will now report to Rice.
Further reshuffling has seen David Hill of Fox Sports promoted to senior executive VP of News Corp, a new role that will see him focus on programming and digital efforts across all off the company’s territories, Latin America, Asia, Australia, Europe and the US. Hill will be based in Los Angeles.
The promotions come as News Corp prepares to split in two, separating its TV side from the scandal-plagued newspaper division.
Over the weekend, News Corp chairman and CEO Rupert Murdoch also reportedly quit the boards of several of the company’s subsidiaries, including NI Group, Times Newspaper Holdings and NewsCorp Investments in the UK. However, there has been no official word from the company or any regulatory filings.
