CBBC orders in-house trio

UK children’s channel CBBC has ordered new comedy, factual and gameshow series, as it gears up to welcome its new controller.

CBBC Productions will produce Dick & Dom’s Absolute Genius (10x30′), which Owenna Griffiths (Newsround) will executive produce. The show will see presenting duo Dick and Dom investigating the work of important inventors and scientists from history.

DareDevils (13x30′), which has Simon Marsh attached to exec produce, will see kids’ friends and families set tasks that ape their personal passions and fears in order to win “money-can’t-buy” prizes.

CBBC Productions has also secured a two-season run of Earthshock, a factual series that will fuse experts, testimonies and experiments to unveil the real power of the Earth. Gurdip Bhangoo executive produces.

All three come from an in-house development team lead by creative director Bill Hobbins and were commissioned by former CBBC controller Damian Kavanagh, who has joined Channel 4′s factual team. BBC Comedy executive Cheryl Taylor will replace him, starting in the fall.

Meanwhile, CBBC has also commissioned a second season of comedy factual series Vic Reeves’ Ministry of Curious Stuff (13x30′).
