Female-skewing US cable network TLC is taking one of its one-off documentaries about extended families to series next month.
United Bates of America (8x60′) will premiere on Monday August 13 at 21.00, focusing on Gil and Kelly Jo Bates and their brood of 19 children.
The family previously appeared in 19 Kids & Counting, and later a one-off doc called The Bates Family: Baby Makes 19 which aired in March, but will now have their own eight-part series produced by Figure 8 Films.
The trend for reality shows about supersize families is well established on TLC and other US channels. The canon includes TLC’s Jon & Kate Plus 8 and Table for 12 and WE TV’s OMG! Sextuplets! and Raising Sextuplets.
