Stan Lee YouTube line-up unmasked

Comic book legend Stan Lee’s upcoming premium content YouTube channel will include series from the man himself, plus parody toons and reality series.

Stan Lee’s World of Heroes is a joint venture between Lee’s POW! Entertainment, which The Walt Disney Company has a 10% stake in, and Michael Eisner-backed US multi-platform prodco Vuguru.

Its programming line-up, which will be formally announced at the Comic-Con event in the US on Thursday, includes Stan Lee’s Super Model, a scripted action comedy in which a pair of aspiring models and a blogger accidentally gain superpowers.

Lee created the programme, which Heath Corson (Aim High) executive produces and BlackBoxTV’s Taryn O’Neill is attached to as writer.

Elsewhere, Lee will front Stan’s Rants, an opinion series in “the spirit of the classic Stan’s Soapbox column [from Marvel Comics],” according to POW! and Vuguru.

Makeover reality series Stan Lee’s Academy of Heroes comes from Emmy-winning producer Jon Kroll. It will see aspiring real life heroes mentored so they can take their quests for goof “to the next level.” Lee will offer participants his own wisdom.

Other shows include superhero courtroom reality series FanWars; parody toon Bad Days; and scripted comedy Head Cases, which has Eisner attached and focuses on a bar superheroes frequent in between battles.

The channel is one of 100 professionally produced content channels YouTube announced last year. The Google-owned website has since begun working on similar initiates in the UK and elsewhere in Europe.
