Oh Brave Knight (And I!)
French pay channel Canal+ has pre-bought a Belgian shortform children’s film about a clumsy knight from Plankton Invasion writer Joeri Christiaen.
850 Meters comes from Christiaen’s prodco Thuristar and fellow Belgian company Lunanime. Canal+ has acquired French rights and will broadcast the film in 2013 after production completes at the end of this year.
Christiaen first developed the 10-minute film in 2003 and redeveloped it six years later, having picked up funding. The film will hit the festival circuit next year.
Canal+ Family is also backing a 52x13’ spin-off TV series, Oh Brave Knight (And I!), which Thuristar is co-developing with France’s TeamTO. Christiaen wrote the scripts along with Thierry Gaudin and executive produces with TeamTO’s Corinne Kouper and Perrine Gaulthier.

Both projects feature the same clumsy and cowardly knight who is mistakenly given the toughest tasks by the king. His loyal squire often gets them out of trouble with a mix of crazy ideas and enthusiasm.
TeamTO and Thuristar, which previously hooked up with Canal+ on marine-themed toon Plankton Invasion, will present the new show in September at Cartoon Forum in Toulouse, where they will be seeking broadcast and distribution partners, a TeamTO representative told C21.
“We aim to further develop the series for the rest of this year and go into production in fall 2013,” she added.
