Wallace & Gromit producer Aardman Animations’ long-serving head of broadcast Miles Bullough has left the company after nine years to begin a freelance career.
Bullough held the top TV position at the Bristol-based company since 2003, during which time he executive produced hit series such as Shaun the Sheep and Timmy Time. His role covered development, financing and production.
C21 understands the exit was entirely amicable and that Aardman has begun the process of finding a replacement. Bullough will continue to consult for the firm, which is famed for its Oscar-winning claymation productions, on a non-exclusive basis.
The news comes on the eve of the nineth Children’s Media Conference, the premier UK kids’ entertainment industry event that kicks off tomorrow evening in Sheffield.
“After nine years at Aardman I have decided it’s time for a new challenge and so today is the first day of the next chapter in my professional career,” Bullough said.
“It was a hard decision to make [because] Aardman is an amazing company, which has given me extraordinary opportunities to work on world-class projects, meet exceptionally talented people and get involved with huge campaigns.
“But I’m not getting any younger and I still have the energy, time and the hunger for another professional adventure.”
Bullough is now working on a business plan to launch a start-up that would bring together his passions – “comedy, animation and digital media,” he told C21.
Before joining Aardman, Bullough was MD of Trigger Happy TV producer Absolutely Productions and, before that, head of production at IPH Westhall.
