SBS Television in Sweden has turned to the former head of a pan-Scandinavian production company to replace its former programming director Lars Beckung.
Calle Jansson will take up the newly created role of channel director, which sees him take up Beckung’s role in charge of Kanal 5 and Kanal 9. However, he will also have additional responsibility for channel content, positioning, strategy and development.
Until his arrival, Peter Myhrman, chief operating officer of SBS, will continue as acting programme director.
Jansson left his role as CEO of production and formats company Strix Television, part of Modern Times Group (MTG), in May. The group has subsequently undergone a revamp, with the creation of MTG Studios.
His credits include factual entertainment series Klass 9A and Ullared, and the Johan Falk crime drama series.
Jansson has previously worked as programme director at Viasat-owned TV3 and ZTV in Sweden, was later VP of TV3 and ZTV, and subsequently head of MTG’s production unit Modern Studios.
Jonas Sjögren, president of ProSiebenSat.1-owned SBS Media Group Sweden, which oversees SBS Television, said Jansson combines passion, commitment and professionalism with years of television experience.
Beckung left SBS this month after announcing his departure in May. He had been at the company for five years.
