USA hires for reality drive

US cablenet USA Network has appointed a new VP of alternative programming to oversee its expansion into reality content.

Scott Friedman was previously a production exec for USA, helping to develop its alternative programming department.

He has now been handed responsibility for production of alternative programming as part of the channel’s push into non-scripted entertainment.

The channel recently announced it had picked up a reality pilot called Bride or Best Man (working title) from Shed Media, and relationship series Romancing The Globe from exec producer Mark Burnett.

USA has also ordered a Shed Media pilot of The Choir, which sees UK choirmaster Gareth Malone attempting to turn members of local communities into choirs; and has greenlit The Moment, produced by The Hochberg Ebersol Company, in which contestants pursue their dream careers.

Friedman was previously exec in charge of production at Morningstar Entertainment, where he worked on shows such as Manhunters for A&E Network and The Deadliest Warrior for Spike TV.

He also worked for Twentieth Television, Celador, ITV Studios and Universal Media Studios.
